The new Google Nexus 5X is leading the way for USB–C connected smartphones. But unlike its Nexus 6P stablemate, it won’t ship with a USB–C to USB–A cable, making transferring files harder.
The move means that owners of the Nexus 5X will have to shell out around £7 for a cable, on top of paying the £339 starting price for the handset. Not a huge amount, but infuriating considering 6P owners are being given the requisite lead free of charge.
Charging is also likely to be more clunky with the bundled USB–C to USB–C connector, given that existing charging plugs are not compatible with the C standard port.
Google will begin selling the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P at the end of October. Pre–orders are already live via the Google Store.
