The iPhone 7 could dispense with a physical home button in favour of a finger-sensitive 'virtual' home button embedded within the screen, according to a new report.

That would mean that instead of physically pushing the button, you would just touch your finger or thumb on it to activate it. It would also mean that almost the entire front of the next-generation iPhone would be taken up by the screen.

We've heard the rumour before, but it's just been bolstered by a report from supply chain sources speaking to DigiTimes.

The report also reiterates previous rumours that the next iPhone will be waterproof and dustproof, just like the Samsung Galaxy S7.

The protruding camera lens on the back of the iPhone 6S could be flattened, it claims too, meaning that, combined with the touch-sensitive home button, both the front and back of the handset would be completely flush.

Considering the iPhone 7 is expected to be the slimmest iPhone yet, that would be quite some feat.

It's said to be so slim that it won't even have a 3.5mm headphone port. Instead, you would connect your cans wirelessly via Bluetooth or using the Lightning port.

As ever, this is just a rumour for now, so take it with a pinch of salt.
