Yesterday, mocked-up blueprints showing how the iPhone 7 might look hit the web. While these are completely unofficial and are based on rumours rather than concrete fact, they do point to one rather interesting feature: wireless charging.

The blueprints show the forthcoming handset with a Smart Connector on the back. This is the port that's found on both models of iPad Pro, and is used to connect a keyboard. But surely you don't need a keyboard for a handset. So why could it be there?

One theory is that it'll enable the iPhone 7 to support wireless charging.

Logitech recently released a charging dock that juices up the iPad Pro through the Smart Connector.

Instead of plugging in a cable to the Lightning port, you just place the tablet on the dock and let it juice up. Easy.

Charging via the Smart Connector would also leave the Lightning port free to be used for headphones, so you could listen to tunes without disturbing everyone while charging your phone.

Apple is rumoured to be ditching the headphone port on the iPhone 7 to make the handset slimmer.

It's just hearsay for now. But it's an intriguing prospect. If true, it could make the iPhone 7 quite different from the 6S when it launches in September.
