Samsung is making a new flip phone. But while that might set alarm bells ringing that we're heading back to the dim and distant days of 2003, rest assured that its specs will actually be thoroughly modern.

The as-yet-unnamed handset has the model number SM-W2016, and will have two 3.9-inch AMOLED screens on either side of the flip section.

Inside, it'll boast an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 64GB of storage and 3GB of RAM. Which is in line with a lot of high-end smartphones.

It will also house a 16-megapixel camera, a 5-megapixel front-facer and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box, according to the Chinese regulatory authority TENAA.

News of Samsung's plans comes amid signs that flip phones, one of which features prominently in the video for Adele's Hello, could be making a comeback.

LG launched the Wine Smart flip phone earlier this year in France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Kazakhstan and Japan.

Samsung also released another flip model, the Galaxy Golden, a couple of years ago. But the SM-W2016 is by far the most impressive, spec-wise.

There's no word on which countries the phone will be available. We'll keep you posted, though.
